Celebrating Through Citizenship

Celebrating Through Citizenship

To honor their company's 175th anniversary, Deere employees from around the world planted thousands of trees and engaged in other environmental activities.

Last year, to honor our 175th anniversary, John Deere challenged employees to "Celebrate Through Citizenship" by demonstrating our commitment to social responsibility.

The results were inspiring, including refurbishing an elementary school, donating tons of food to underprivileged people, helping Habitat for Humanity build homes, donating books to schoolchildren, and filling backpacks with food to ensure underprivileged children have adequate nutrition on weekends.

John Deere employees also conceived a number of projects that promoted sustainability and environmental awareness.

At seven John Deere facilities throughout Mexico, we helped collect e-waste — electronic items that should be disposed of separately — as part of a campaign to encourage more environmentally conscious disposal habits.

And since a tree may be the most instantly recognizable symbol of environmental health, John Deere employees, often joined by their families, planted thousands of them.

Nearly 700 employees from our John Deere Brazil, Catalão facility planted 4,000 saplings around a lake. John Deere Argentina employees planted a tree for every year we've been in business to help landscape a new park adjoining the Rosario-Victoria Bridge. And in Mexico, John Deere employees planted 175 trees in public parks in Monterrey while employees from our Torreon facility delivered 1,500 trees to be planted locally.

These and dozens of other volunteer activities reflect our employees' personal commitment to citizenship and the environment.
